FED: Aboriginal leader calls for scrutiny of Brough's business

An indigenous leader is calling for more scrutiny of a former minister's dealings in
the Tiwi Islands.

TOM CALMA .. the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Social Justice Commissioner
.. is concerned about the activities of former Indigenous Affairs Minister MAL BROUGH.

Mr BROUGH .. who lost his Queensland seat of Longman at the November election .. has
recently been spotted on the Tiwi Islands .. and is reportedly working on a business project
from which he's seeking to profit.

He and his business partners are reportedly working with the Tiwi Land Council on the
project .. believed to be based in the community of Nguiu.

When Mr BROUGH was the minister .. Nguiu has was the only community to give up control
of its land for 99 years under a controversial lease scheme.

Mr CALMA has told Network Ten he has concerns Mr BROUGH may be trying to take advantage
of indigenous people.
