FED:Greens want levies on rich, carbon tax

BOB BROWN has foreshadowed levies on the rich and a carbon tax could become a reality
if his Greens party wins the balance of power in federal parliament.

Senator BROWN has signalled his Senate colleagues will seek to make the wealthy pay
more income tax .. as spelt out in the party platform.

The senator says there are seven-thousand people in this country who earn more than
a million dollars a year .. and it's reasonable to increase their tax rate from 45 cents
to 50 cents in the dollar.

Two days after Prime Minister JULIA GILLARD vowed her government would resist bringing
in a carbon tax .. Senator BROWN said the opposite would happen if the Greens had their
way.

The Greens are widely tipped to win the balance of power in the Senate .. which would
give them the authority to amend or block legislation.
