BOARDS GUILDERLAND TUESDAY Action items:Heard from Eric White, a resident who is concerned about the proposed building of a new bus garage in a residential area. He suggested an indoor bus garage may not be economically beneficial and that building a maintenance facility only, would allow more space to park buses at the present outdoor site. District Superintendent Blaise A. Salerno said in such a case there would ultimately be a need for another transit facility. Heard from the District Music Supervisor Sam Ferrucci who reported on the elementary school music program. Thirteen 4th- and 5th-graders were present who sung and played their instruments to demonstrated the music skills they have learned. Ferrucci said that over 40 percent of middle school students and 50 percent of elementary students are involved in music vocally or playing an instrument. Discussed a proposal by a committee of teachers and parents to present an achievement award certificate to students who have completed the 5th grade. The board was divided on the proposal and tabled it for a future meeting. Approved a resolution to participate with Onondaga-Cortland-Madison County BOCES in cooperative bidding for office furniture and equipment. Approved a bid for copy paper in the amount of $14,012. Appointed 13 members to the Citizens' Budget Advisory Committee. Appointed James Corona as social studies teacher, Kathy Day as physical education teacher, and Matthew O'Connor as mathematics teacher. Accepted the resignations of Sarah Johnson Collins as elementary school teacher and Jennifer Seretan as high school science teacher. Accepted retirement resignations from teachers Mary-Ann Brock, Elizabeth Close, Paul Forand, Beverly Harrington, Elizabeth Kline, Wanda Knapp, Patricia Spohr and Daniel Thomas.
