Qld: North mops up as rain and flooding start to ease
Queensland's tropical north is starting to mop up after torrential rain brought flooding,evacuations and road closures.
The Flinders Highway to Charters Towers remain cut at the Macrossan Bridge, but theBruce Highway north and south of Townsville has reopened after it was cut in two placesnear Ayr, earlier in the week.
There have been no evacuations today, after 14 people had to be rescued by helicopterfrom five properties between Charters Towers and Pentland yesterday.
The occupants of one property were forced to climb onto the roof to escape the risingfloodwaters.
The weather bureau has issued flood warnings for the Herbert, Haughton and Burdekinrivers and for the Flinders and Gilbert rivers in the Gulf country.
