TENANT EVICTIONS POSSIBLE AT SENECA INDIAN RESERVATION.(CAPITAL REGION)

SALAMANCA Eviction notices could be going out in a matter of weeks to homeowners who are tenants of America's only city built on an Indian reservation.

The landlord, the Seneca Nation of Indians, plans to give about 180 property owners one last chance next month to sign a new lease that replaced a century-old one that expired in 1991. Some homeowners said the lease violated their property rights and refused to sign.

The tribe will turn over the names of anyone who fails to sign to the Indian Affairs Division of the U.S. Interior Department, which has agreed to help the Senecas with eviction proceedings.
