Fed: MP calls for memorial for Australian war correspondents

National Party MP PAUL NEVILLE has called on all federal politicians to support a push
for a memorial to honour the 28 Australian war correspondents killed while reporting on
conflicts since the Boer War.

The CEW Bean Foundation has been trying to have a national memorial built in Canberra
to commemorate the services of war correspondents.

Mr NEVILLE yesterday said such a memorial should take its place proudly alongside other
monuments for the army, navy and airforce on Anzac Parade, near the War Memorial.

He says war correspondents, such as media mogul RUPERT MURDOCH'S father Sir KEITH MURDOCH,
were key players in the forming of public opinion.

Sir KEITH'S reports from the World War I battle grounds at Gallipoli helped bring about
Sir IAN HAMILTON'S dismissal as Commander-in-Chief of the campaign.
